dj ShmeeJay‘s Ain’t No Big Thing radio show, live on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month from 8pm – 11pm (GMT) / 3pm – 6pm (EST) / Noon – 3pm (PST) on BoxFrequency.fm.

This week I hosted Superprince. Superprince is Shawn Ryan & Jeffrey Levi Fry (aka Peter Dragontail aka Garry Gazelle). They are based out of Philadelphia & have released music on Young Robots, Moulton Music & Hotbox music.

Every one thousand years in the K. Hauenstein star system, on the planet Rogersnelson, a wormhole opens.  It leads directly from the planet’s capital city of Bohannon to it’s galactic sister city, Philadelphia on the planet Earth.  In the K. Hauenstein star system, music is a valuable currency and many wars are fought over it. It is said “He who controls the music, controls the universe”. Almost two decades ago, the disco freighter HMS Sylvester was successfully destroyed by a marauding squadron of Imperial RIAA fighters.  Before the freighter exploded, two families loaded their only sons into escape pods and launched them into space. The pods drifted for days and the fate of the two young men was looking grim. On the fifth day, however, their luck shifted dramatically. The god of cosmic energy, Moroder, noticed their plight and set them forth on solar winds through the closing wormhole. After crashing in Philadelphia, the children emerged from their pods, looked at each other and said, “We are Superprince.”  The collection of songs on this page are the efforts of Superprince to communicate in a new world, whilst paying homage to their alien homeland. Please enjoy the music, and if something seems off, cut them some slack – they are fucking alien orphans from the K. Hauenstein starsystem.

This episode I host Niklas Mellilä aka ‘Disco Tech’. Niklas, born in Finland and raised in Sweden, started to mix with records around 1995. Later, in 1998 he entered his first ever dj competition, and took on 2nd place. That would eventually lead him to compete in the Swedish Dj championships. He placed himself at 3rd position 2003.  Also that year Pioneer held the first ever digital dj battle in Stockholm witch Disco Tech won First place. During this time he was touring all around Sweden, doing many gigs and being the official dj for a Cuban hip hop group called Alianza, that would later take him around the world playing on different festivals and clubs. In 2008 returned to the battle scene and won second place in the Swedish DMC Competition witch gave him the chance to compete at the World Dj Championships witch was held in London.

These last years he has put a lot of focus into the production. He has worked with numerous Swedish artist providing productions and scratches. Launching his own label in 2012, DiscoDat Records. The DiscoDat label has picked up a lot of attention within the re-edit communitys around the world. And is today a highly respected record label.

dj ShmeeJay‘s Ain’t No Big Thing radio show, live on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month from 9pm – 11pm (GMT) / 4pm – 6pm (EST) / 1pm – 3pm (PST) on BoxFrequency.fm.

This week I have the pleasure of hosting a guest mix from the mighty Fred Berthet aka dj Steef. dj Steef is a Marseilles, France based producer known for making slow & funky downtempo house tracks. dj Steef started out working with Biomix (organizer of “Electronic Territories” Festival, later known as “Seconde Nature”), and after composing singles with Antoine Boullé under the pseudonym Venus Attack Project (on the label US Guidance), he created the band known as Troublemakers with his friend Lionel Corsini & Arnaud Taillefert. After an over-welcomed first LP (“Doubts & Convictions” on Guidance Recordings) and well received worldwide, Concecration came on the second one on Blue Note (“Express Way”) pushing The Troublemakers at one of the top electronic band in the French scene.

Fred later on focused his attention on Copyshop project, influenced by the 80’s (Gomma, Toy Tonics, La Dame Noir, Numoment…). Producing now under dj Steef its was the occasion to synthesize his musical roots such as 80’s electro pop, poisonous disco, classy french influences, insistent downtempo and up warding house. Fred has found in his alter ego dj Steef the perfect combination of incredible fat, slow, funky downtempo house tracks that every body is so crazy about. As Gomma label boss says on him its not about fashion but clearly about style & that’s why we all love his production stamped Biomix, in the shadows, under cover & simply outstanding.
