dj ShmeeJay‘s Ain’t No Big Thing radio show, live on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month from 8pm – 10pm (PST) / 11pm – 1am (EST) on BoxFrequency.fm, and with a podcast syndicated on iTunes.

This episode I host Sascha Yamashita aka The Sly Virus, a northern BC born, multi-disciplinary artist currently calling Bowen Island BC home, who partitions his creativity between two fields, DJ’ing and conceptual fine art. Sascha’s artwork cannot be defined by a single medium but he rather embraces all mediums, selecting the appropriate one to best convey the content of the specific piece or series. It is in Sascha’s unique approach to his content that his work can be both recognized and distinguished by. This same creative approach drives Sascha’s ear for music. Having always had a passion for music but never learning to play, 13+ years ago he turned towards the creativity of mixing records. Today, Sascha  is known throughout BC to DJ under two different monikers, The Sly Virus and Aleksandr – each delivering a different yet quality audio experience.

The Sly Virus flawlessly mixes a multitude of funkier ‘house’ sub-genres including, indie dance, nu disco, Balearic, and deep house to bring parties his unmistakable style of ‘Deep Disco’. Aleksandr (a newer DJ project, 13 years in the making) focuses his musical selections in deep, melodic and ethereal house music to give his audiences a sophisticated and emotional progression on the dance floor. Regardless, of whichever moniker Sascha is performing under, he is known for perfectly curated, mixed sets that can only be described as purely infectious! With either the sly virus or Aleksandr behind the decks it is clearly evident he can keep the vibe going at all hours – never failing to deliver!

dj ShmeeJay‘s Ain’t No Big Thing radio show, live on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month from 8pm – 10pm (PST) / 11pm – 1am (EST) on BoxFrequency.fm, and with a podcast syndicated on iTunes.

This episode I host Brooklyn-based producer, DJ, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and label-owner JKriv.

With a professional musical career stretching nearly 2 decades, J has gained serious attention recently for his masterfully crafted disco reworks, original productions, and rousing DJ sets. A Traxsource Top-20 Nu Disco / Indie Danceartist for the past 2 years, his tracks have been played by DJs such as Derrick Carter, Andrew Weatherall, Louie Vega, Kenny Dope, Mark Farina, Greg Wilson, and have gained mainstream support from Drake and Majid Jordan in their Apple Music OVO Radio show, as well as legendary BBC Radio 1 DJ Pete Tong. Bringing a seasoned musicality to everything he touches, JKriv’s talent for stripped-down organic production and songwriting is evident in his original songs Another Night, Make It Hotand Redo, and many of his re-edits have reached modern-classic status. With releases on Disco Deviance, Mareh’s Barefoot Beats label, Secret Squirrels, Whiskey Disco and his own Razor-N-Tape among others, J has solidified his status as a master of the modern edit/rework, and has been called on to remix numerous artists such as Dimitri from Paris, Imagination, Escort and more.Like his productions, JKriv’s DJ sets also showcase his deep and diverse taste, weaving eclectic disco, house, and offbeat selections together seamlessly, always with an ear for groove and harmony, and an eye to the dance floor. In addition to regular nights at hometown hot spots Black Flamingo, Le Bain, Good Room, and Elsewhere, J has performed and DJ’d in over 30 countries and nearly every state in the continental US, sharing bills with Todd Terje, Session Victim, Joey Negro, and many more.

JKriv’s talents as a taste maker extend beyond the studio and DJ booth. He’s a founding member of the live disco band Escort, co-writing/producing and touring with the group. And as co-owner of respected Brooklyn record label Razor-N-Tape. RNT now boasts a 50 release-deep catalog that has garnered support and spins from some of the biggest names in modern dance music, and is one of the most respected and consistent new disco labels in the game today. With remixes coming on Soundway and Z Records, a mini-album of Brazilian reworks on Razor-N-Tape for Record Store Day, international tours and a performance at the Sasquatch Festival with Escort all within the first half of the year, 2018 is already certain to be huge for JKriv.

Look for more of JKriv on SoundCloud, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. And of course you must familiarize yourself with Razor-N-Tape.
