dj ShmeeJay‘s Ain’t No Big Thing radio show, live on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month from 8pm – 10pm (PST) / 11pm – 1am (EST) on BoxFrequency.fm.
According to Juno, JB Dizzy is a newbie to the scene, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Just think of him as an old soul that got lost on the way back to the Disco. Dave Backes AKA JB Dizzy got his start DJing in the golden era of Hawaii’s underground house music scene in the mid to late 90’s, and quickly became a regular selector on its circuit.
Moving back to the mainland just before the DJ boom, Dave took many years off (aside from many guest appearances when he traveled back home to Hawaii) until 2012 when he teamed up with North Florida’s Garage crew, a group of artists who shared the same passion for rooted house music, disco, funk and global soul. The Garage quickly gained notoriety for its underground flavor and true-skool vibes.
In 2015, JB Dizzy signed to Discoalition Records out of France and released two tracks, gaining the attention of some of Nudisco’s respected DJs around the globe such as Fingerman, dj ShmeeJay, Evil Smarty, Rafael Cancian, Tonbe, Goby and many more. Tonbe’s Disco Fruit imprint was the next stop for the sophomore effort and JB’s Midnight Power EP fared well, with its title track appearing on Disco Fruit Selections Vol. 4 (subsequently assisting the LP to gain to the 3rd position on Juno’s NuDisco Album chart).
Taking a long break from the edits/reworks, Dave joined back with the Garage Party founders Ancient Deep (whom have been holding their own over at Open Bar Music, Intimate Venues Recordings and Soul Clap Records) to form Immers Music, and is due for another EP with Immers at the end of the year.
Beyond the busy year and “re-awakening” if you will, JB Dizzy is also a reoccurring DJ guest with Orlando’s Crosstown Sounds monthly party and has forthcoming remixes coming out in the future on their newly established Xtowns label.
