dj ShmeeJay‘s Ain’t No Big Thing radio show, live on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month from 8pm – 10pm (PST) / 11pm – 1am (EST) on BoxFrequency.fm, and with a podcast syndicated on iTunes.

This episode I host Chicago, IL based deejay and producer Underdog Edits, also known as Leonard Part Sixx. Born and raised in Chicago, Underdog Edits has been a record collector since 12 years old, quoting: “I’ve always been fascinated with the power of music and its effect on the human spirit”. Leonard started Djing at age 15 and recalls he was fascinated by edits and mixes done by legendary Djs like Walter Gibbons, Tom Moulton, Jonathan Fearing, Francois K, Shep Pettibone, and others. Being heavily influenced by these legends have given him the understanding & the aural mechanics needed to start djing and doing his own re-edits. Leonard summarizes his philosophy this way: “A re-edit, when done correctly, can be a powerful way of reconnecting the listener to what they loved about the song, in the first place. My goal was to piece together the cosmic energies of these classic and rare rhythm and grooves and make them my own personal statements to the dancer and the dancefloor.”

But Leonard ‘s talents did not stop at re-editing or running one of the best underground Disco labels in the game. Leonard is also an established recording and mixing engineer. His sense for music and his engineering skills finally came together in 2005 when Leonard became Terry Hunter’s personal engineer. Since then, Leonard has worked for Kenny Dope, Ron Trent, Ron Carroll, and various artists & labels worldwide. His Underdog Edits has been on the playlists of dj’s all over the world. His monthly residency with Ron Trent’s City Beat parties has been introducing a new generation to his groove. And he was recently selected as Music Director of Chicago’s new music mecca, The Shrine Nightclub, forging a new era in music and nightlife. So, though Leonard  may be considered an Underdog, he is rising from the shadows of Disco and is becoming a up-and-coming player in the world of Dance Music.

Luxxury - Good Morning Disco

dj ShmeeJay‘s Ain’t No Big Thing radio show, live on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month from 8pm – 10pm (PST) / 11pm – 1am (EST) on BoxFrequency.fm, and with a podcast syndicated on iTunes.

This episode i host California based producer, deejay, rapscallion extraordinaire LUXXURY. LUXXURY  broke out in 2013 with the release of a series of unofficial remixes called “LUXXURY Edits” using only original multitrack stems for a number of famous songs including Eagles’ “Hotel California”, Duran Duran’s “Girl on Film”and many more. As a result of the attention he received (Wall Street Journal, LA Times, Vice etc.) he began to get commissioned remix work from artists such as Greg Wilson, Melanie Martinez and Fitz & The Tantrums. In 2016 LUXXURY released a series of original singles, appeared on NBC’s Last Call with Carson Daly, and got support from outlets as Majestic Casual, Spin and Complex. LUXXURY has had more than 2 million streams on Spotify with over 200k average monthly listeners.

LUXXURY, fresh out with a new smooth yet dance-able magic hour-tinged love song, “I Need You”. Singer/Producer/Multi Instrumentalist Blake Robin explains: “It’s the most honest song I’ve ever written, indeed when I sing it live I blush from revealing myself in public so shamelessly. But frankly I’m a bit of an exhibitionist, so it all works out.” On keys once again is Robin’s frequent collaborator Billy Caruso, whose shimmering Rhodes line gives the otherwise upbeat dance song an aching, melancholy tone. Guest bassist Joe Karnes from Fitz and the Tantrums gives Robin’s original bassline a punch in the gut, elevating it to disco funk heaven.

And all of that for Ain’t No Big Thing,
