dj ShmeeJay‘s Ain’t No Big Thing radio show, live on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month from 8pm – 10pm (PST) / 11pm – 1am (EST) on BoxFrequency.fm.

This episode Sleazy McQueen returns to Ain’t No Big Thing. As owner of the record label Whiskey Disco, Sleazy McQueen has helped to give the ‘Nu-Disco’ scene an element of referential class. With remarkably well produced re-works and originals, the Sleazy sound combines the dirty fun of seventies funk with the hypnotic rhythms of deep house. As a dj, he has travelled from Asia to Europe, both Americas and a constant tour of the United States. His music productions have been licensed to over 100 releases, remixes & edits on labels worldwide, including, but not limited to; Bearfunk, Virgin Music, Siesta, Compost, Paper Recordings & House Arrest.

Not to mention that the Whiskey Disco sound really represents a corner stone of the music that I like to play and listen to. I tip my hat.

Also look for Sleazy on his website, Facebook, Google+, and Discogs.

Sleazy McQueen‘s set is Sleazy’s little secret, but if you ask he just might tell you:

Fingerman _Ain't No Big Thing-Freq

dj ShmeeJay‘s Ain’t No Big Thing radio show, live on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month from 8pm – 10pm (PST) / 11pm – 1am (EST) on BoxFrequency.fm.

This episode I host Brighton UK based taste maker Fingerman. Fingerman has been spinning tunes since the mid-nineties jumping from multiple genres in his time. Originally a techno and house head, Fingerman caught the disco bug in the mid 2000’s whilst holding a vinyl only residency at Brighton long-running night club Casablanas. He then began to research the sample material from his favorite house records and, like a kind of domino effect, began following editors and producers such as Greg Wilson, Todd Terje and Dimitri From Paris. He began making his own re-edits of his favorite disco records in order to beat match them for club use soon after.

A highly skilled dj, Fingerman has now taken his disco sound worldwide this past year with gigs in Jakarta in Indonesia, Brussels and more close to home London, Ireland, Glasgow and Manchester playing alongside awesome Dj’s from the likes of Late Nite Tuff Guy, Mr Mendel and Greg Wilson.

Fingerman is available for DJ bookings Worldwide through the Unity Agency.

Also look for Fingerman on HearThis.at, Twitter, and Facebook. Also, yo ushould take some time to check Hot Digits Music, Fingerman’s label with it’s first vinyl release out momentarily.

This episode I host the third installment, Early-Mid 90s Crossover Mix, of Yse Saint Laur’Ant‘s (YSE) three part mix series where he explores a semi-biographical history of the mellow/emotive house sound. Part 1, “Soho Radio Balearic History 80s – 90s Mix” can be found over on Silver Bear Recording‘s SoundCloud page. Part 2 “How I Remember House Pt.2 (Bar and Balearic from the early 90’s)” was presented here this summer. This third installment is YSE’s “Early-Mid 90s Crossover Mix” followed by musical ruminations.

YSE of course is a non-smoking, 5’11”, spotlight-avoiding music producer, crate digger, occasional DJ but all-round music aficionado, currently living in Hong Kong.  YSE enjoys nicely syncopated rhythms, heavy melodies, outgoing quirkiness and a quality glass of cheap Brandy and Coke – hold the ice. At weekends, likes to lead a more refined lifestyle, with his current favorite stench being anything by YSE Saint Laur’Ant or Paraíso. Bangs out music as one half of Matlock super duo Rhythm Plate so comes with a bit of history, mostly spanning 20+ years of DJing in clubs (was the only legal way of getting in!) and 17+ years of music releasing and remixing for numerous labels and artists; but don’t let that put you off. I dig what he does.

You can catch more of Yse Saint Laur’Ant on SoundCloud, Discogs, and Facebook.

Yse Saint Laur’Ant‘s set is YSE’s little secret, but if you ask nicely, perhaps he’ll give you a hint.

This episode I host Hove, UK based dj Pablo Contraband. Pablo has been playing house music and techno for many years, but has met greater success in recent years, since turning his attention to funk, soul and disco and implementing these styles into his sets too. He has stuck to his guns defining himself as a DJ first and foremost with little interest in full blown production.  He has a keen ear for new music and a passion for trawling vintage house and disco, often researching playlists from decades gone by looking for lost classics and hidden treasures.  This attitude has served him well with a constantly busy diary and enviable bookings regularly coming his way.

Pablo Contraband promotes his own Disco Deviant parties which have resulted in some of the best parties Brighton has seen as well taking it on the road for parties in Berlin, Oslo, Holland & London.

Pablo is also the founder of The Unity Agency, managing European bookings for some of the worlds top disco djs.

Cyclist_Ain't No Big Thing-Freq

dj ShmeeJay‘s Ain’t No Big Thing radio show, live on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month from 8pm – 10pm (PST) / 11pm – 1am (EST) on BoxFrequency.fm.

This episode I host dee-jay Mark Penner, alias Cyclist. From a rapturous dawn,  Cyclist, was knee-deep in disco. After a gold star cajoling turn in the DFA remix competition for The Rapture‘s “How Deep Is Your Love” (alongside fellow Canuk Pat Lok), Cyclist has gone from strength to strength; a successful all-disco residency with A Digital Needle at Toronto’s Beam Me Up has seen the eclectic dee-jay share the spotlight with a whole slew of today’s top disco mavens, bolster his production repertoire by working with some of the worlds top producers, as well as his notable work with vocalist Maiko Watson – a collaboration which has resulted in over a hundred thousand plays on SoundCloud.

Since embarking on his first international tour – an excursion which included stops in Mexico, Spain & France – Cyclist has brought his indie-dance fusing brand of boogie funk to the global stage, with a full slate of North American & European dates to follow in 2014. His own label, MANI/PEDI Records with RAC’s Karl Kling, launched late 2013 to intercontinental kudos, with a deluge of dancefloor-oriented releases to transpire in the year to come.

When not occupied by establishing Beam Me Up as Canada’s premier disco party, Cyclist is consumed by his passion for analogue synths and digging for records – an obsession which, while steeped in the past, influences a sound that is very much modern – a juxtaposition that makes Cyclist the obsessive, disco-discerning tastemaker he is.

For North American bookings contact dmason@axumagency.com and European bookings sarah@holographicpeople.com.
