Osmose_Ain't No Big Thing-Freq1

dj ShmeeJay‘s Ain’t No Big Thing radio show, live on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month from 8pm – 11pm (GMT) / 3pm – 6pm (EST) / Noon – 3pm (PST) on BoxFrequency.fm.

This episode I host Atlanta, GA based dj Osmose.

Osmose is all vinyl, all the time turntablist flare with dance floor sensibility. Osmose has worked in the studio and/or nightclub with artists as diverse as Grandmaster Flash, Sleazy McQueen, Ursula 1000, Nicola Conta, Thunderball, Ramadanman, Moldy, CaZ, Mayhem, Boozoo Bajou, Boo Williams, Kai Alce, Paul Rogers, Mykal Rose, Collie Buddz, The Aggrolites, Dubconscious and The Wailers (both versions of the group). Osmose plays a variety of styles from Disco, Funk, Soul, Hip-Hop, Reggae, Deep House, to Nudisco & more, but always keeps it analog! With over 17 years experience behind the decks Osmose now spends most of his time touring North and South America with lots of records.

As of 2011 Osmose launched Smokecloud Records, a vinyl only label that is mastered and pressed in the USA.  The label focuses on the slower side of soul & funk based dance music, but sprinkles in a few dance floor burners.  The label is geared towards DJ’s that play a diverse array of venues. Outside of vinyl releases on Smokecloud records, he also has vinyl out on the France based Whiskey Disco imprint and Canada’s Friendly Monster records with forthcoming tracks on the Toronto based Long Weekend RecordsHoney Disco  and a remix on the boogie and beatdown imprint Rotating Souls! Records.

If you’re in the Pacific Northwest, be sure to catch Osmose live at the following gigs in October:
Friday, October 17 at Anza Club in Vancouver, BC
Saturday, October 17 at The Copper Owl in Victoria, BC

More from Osmose at Twitter, Instagram and Discogs.

And now, to the boogie business.

djShmeeJay_GrooveSkool Radio - Gui

My last (for now) live radio show on GrooveSkool Radio.

This week I hosted a guest mix from Sao Paulo, Brasil based dj Gui Pimentel.

Gui was born in São Paulo/ Brasil in 1972. He “djs “ since 1990. It was in 1993 though that he discovered his passion for house music .That was the year he first went to Ibiza and listened to DJ’s  from all over the world playing a house music full of references and rhythms without tying themselves to any particular genre. Since then, Gui has been crafting his eclectic house style that made him a constant presence in many of Brazil’s main Clubs, Events, Festivals and Private Parties.

Gui’s sets can also been caught @ 97,7 FM on his homeland of São Paulo (www.97fm.com.br -every Monday/ 22:00hs ) or @ his exclusive podcast – DJ Gui Pimentel House Podcast – that can be found in the Itunes Store. There, Gui publishes a mix every month to a broad subscriber base.

Since 2008, Gui started producing some bootlegs, edits and tracks on his own and along side DJ and Producer Buga. More recently, Gui has teamed up with Deep Beat Records to launch most of his material.

“ I try to be eclectic in my sets and productions, I play basically house music without tying myself to any specific genre or style. I try to be guided by the people on the dancefloor and create a happy, positive atmosphere, because in the end it’s all about having fun “.

You can find Gui on SoundCloud, Twitter and Facebook.

Now, to the heart of the matter.

As a little treat to close out the year my friend Akis, aka VinylAddicted, and I have pulled together another collaborative project. It’s a two hour journey into Akis’ wonderful vinyl collection as well as some fantastic music that I’ve picked up during the year.  This set was first presented on my radio show on GrooveSkool Radio on Sunday 12/22, where you can catch me live every Sunday from 10pm (gmt) / 5pm (est) / 2pm (pst), often along with a guest mix from one of my favorite taste makers.

VinylAddicted is, among many other things, the curator of you the  Editor’s Kutz series of releases. You are going to want to keep your eyes peeled for the third installment, set to be released on vinyl during January 2014. Also, you can find more of VinylAddicted on Facebook and Twitter as well as his blog JustLoveVinyls.Blogspot.com.
